Biloxi 2007
St. Michael Joins Thrivent Builds-Habitat for Humanity
Close-in two houses in 5 days!?! That is what the members of our team who went to Biloxi, Mississippi, March 3-10 did. Our nine plus that many more from area churches, ten students from a Baptist college in Rhode Island, and a dozen college students from Waynesburg teamed up on this special build to bring two houses from mere foundations on Monday morning to closed in buildings ready for shingling and siding by Friday afternoon. We thought the excitement was putting up the first trusses, but seeing the doors and windows installed really helped everyone feel that progress had been made.
Over the subsequent weekend, the plumbers and electricians did their parts so that the drywall could be put up. In just three weeks total time, two families have homes to live in.
The location is about five blocks from the ocean in Biloxi. And this would have been only about a mile from where we stayed at Camp VIctor in Ocean Springs if the bridge were repaired.
The weather was great (70s and sun), the fellowship, particularly with the energetic and polite youth was fine, and no one was hurt. Thank you for your prayers and support.
