Nicaragua Mission Trip 2006
With only minor bumps along the way, the Nicaragua Mission trip went very well indeed. The eight team members from SE Pennsylvania (including Peggy & Natalie Fay, Carol Little, and Mary & Phil Duncan from St. Michael) joined seven others from New York State to serve in and around Managua, Nicaragua.
Team members carried out several projects during our 10 day sojourn in Nicaragua. Consistent with our custom, team members presented Bible stories and crafts to children. One team member spent most of his time working with the children and staff at a school for deaf children in Managua. The entire team toured this facility, which provides excellent education for children who would otherwise be left behind because of their hearing difficulties.
A third project involved the preparation and assembly of a large playground apparatus for the school in Los Brasiles. Los Brasiles has been the location for much team work in past years. It was heartening to see the growth of the school and the enthusiasm of teachers and students. A series of teacher training workshops was presented by three team members. These workshops, which involved many hours of preparation prior to the trip and intensive work with the teachers during the presentations, constitute a big step forward for the teachers. The teachers now have many new ideas and materials to help them be more creative and effective in their instruction.
Support from St. Michael — both in prayer and finances — made the mission trip a success. The team is preparing pictures to show how your support has made a difference in the lives of the people of Nicaragua. Look for an announcement about the missions program this fall.
