St. Michael Lutheran Church

Peru Mission Trip 2005

St. Michael members Ed & Debbie Schultz, Don May, Robyn Liska, J Liska, Karen Markey and Duane Erdmann spent July 23 — August 3 in Peru building a training center on a model farm in the Amazon jungle. Mixing mortar, laying bricks, and hauling dirt away from the area was the task de jour.

In the “cool” of the evening — just before retiring to tents on a hard surface — the team enjoyed devotions and games with the local workers and the first class of Chayahuita Indian boys. The goal is to teach the area indians to farm so that they can return protein to their diet. The building will be used for classes and housing for the training instructor.

Going and coming, this team and the six others with them, visited feeding centers in poverty areas of Lima and a center for struggling, new Chayahuita mothers in Yurimaguas.
