Peru Mission Trip 2006

Our mission trip to Peru was very successful; we accomplished our tasks and nobody got hurt other than the assorted insect bites. We installed gutters on to buildings, piped in two tanks, installed a water pump and a separate water storage tank on a 10 foot high tower. We ran all the associated pipes to connect the tanks to each other and to the kitchen/office building. Also the generator assembly was started on, and we had wire run to connect the generator to the pump. It was the first time at the farm that there could be power in more than one place.
The water will make a tremendous difference in the quality of life at the farm. Prior to this project, drinking water was carried in by truck. All the wash water and even water for cooking and coffee was taken from an above ground spring and boiled. It explains why one morning the coffee tasted like fish. Now showers are taken with clean water from a shower head and not dirty water from another above ground dirty water pond.
The ambitious team achieved its objective. The model farm in the jungle of Peru now has clean water. By adding collection gutters to the roof of a building, holding tanks, a pump run from the generator, and an elevated holding tank, these students and their teachers now have clean water for showers, food preparation, and drinking. The team included Don May, Ed Schultz, Stacy Starr, Tom Hannigen, and Carol and Don Donnon.
