Our Music Ministry

All of God’s people have sung throughout recorded history. The Israelites sang after their deliverance from Egypt. David sang in time of trouble and rejoicing. Mary and Simeon sang songs of thanksgiving. John, on the island of Patmos, heard the glorious songs of the angels in his vision. You might say, “The story is a song to be sung”.
Music serves a variety of purposes. Music helps people who sing together remember their story, and the repeated memory of that common story binds together members of the group. Music helps people become one in identity and purpose. Because of music's ability to form the community, it has been a vital part of the Christian church over the centuries.
Music is God's creation. It is a gift to God's people to use in praise and adoration and in prayer. Music communicates and expresses faith in ways beyond mere words. For Martin Luther, music was a practical art closely tied to theology, to be used in the praise of God and in the proclamation of the Gospel.
At St. Michael, music functions not as an ornament or entertainment, but rather as an integral part of our faith journey. We hope you will join us as we seek to explore, experience and proclaim the good news of God in this place and to our community through the gift of music.
The Matins Choir
A choir for all you early risers! Matins Choir singers meet at 7:15 a.m. on the second Sunday of the month. The Choir will learn a simple anthem usually based on a familiar hymn text and sing it during the 8:00 a.m. worship service.

Jubilation Ringers

Haven’t you always wanted to learn to play the hand bells??? If so, the “Jubilation Ringers Bell Choir” is for you! This popular choir meets on Thursday evenings, 6:30 - 7:30 p.m. to work on ensemble music. The choir performs rewarding and prayerful music one Sunday a month and on special occasions. We have just added two more octaves of bells to the bell choir, giving us five octaves in all! Music reading skills are needed in order to ring with this group.
Summer Ringers and Singers
A summer "pick-up" choir! No need to think about an evening rehearsal—just show up on any of the several scheduled Sundays in the summer to sing or ring! Ringers and singers will come at 7:15 a.m. that Sunday morning and learn an easy piece to use during worship that morning. All are welcome!
Music at St. Michael Concert Series
In 1999, we launched an exciting new outreach of our congregation’s ministry: an annual series of concerts and recitals to be called Music at St. Michael. Our mission is to use the beautifully glorious acoustics of our new sanctuary and provide an avenue to the arts for our community through the universal language of music. With the gifted talents of both professional and amateur performers, Music at St. Michael, presents five distinctive musical events each year.
