Fellowship at St. Michael
As we continue to grow, it is a priority to remain in touch with all members of our parish. In an effort to maintain contact with members we organized a group called Caring Shepherds. These are people with a true heart for caring and looking out for others. Each shepherd has a small flock of families that he/she remains in contact with throughout the year, especially if they are missing worship with any regularity. Shepherds will, in turn, report any necessary information to the Pastor that may help us better minister to the needs of the congregation.
In an effort to assist the congregation with the ever-changing face of our church family, a Fellowship Committee was created with the task of planning special fellowship events for the congregation. The committee sponsors six congregational events each year and encourages and assists other church groups with additional church socials.
St. Michael’s involvement in the community is varied and widespread. Community organizations such as Kindermusik, Women’s Community Bible Study, MOMS Club of Kennett Square, Chester County Hospital Auxiliary, Kennett Symphony Children’s Chorus, and the Boy Scouts provide activities for the community through use of our church facilities. St. Michael also participates in activities with the Kennett Area Senior Center, the Friends Home, and the American Cancer Society’s two-day Relay for Life.
St. Michael partners with neighboring churches in the community through the efforts of the Kennett Ministerium and Lutheran Community Services of Wilmington, DE.
Annual Progressive Dinner
For many years a Saturday night in November has been the occasion for sharing good food and even greater fellowship. The evening starts at the house of the appetizer host and participants go on from there to eat salad and main courses in small groups before joining together at the home of the dessert host. A sign-up poster provides an opportunity to become involved either as a host/hostess or by providing food at someone else's home . It is wonderful fun and a great way to get to know other member of St. Michael.
Feast Groups
Feast groups are small dinner groups that are formed in the fall with a sign-up poster in the hall for interested members. Each group meets at least four times a year with four or more couples in each group. This activity allows members to interact in an informal setting and get to know other members of St. Michael. The feast groups are reorganized each year.
